KETAMINE TREATMENTS AND KETAMINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY (KAP) AT TRIANGLE WELLNESS & RECOVERY
Our practice offers the benefit of ketamine as a treatment enhancer for eligible clients with:
- Moderate to severe depression
- Anxiety disorders
- Alcohol or substance abuse
- Behavioral compulsions
We offer ketamine in two formats:
- Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy
- Individual Ketamine Treatments
Medical supervision is provided throughout each ketamine session. Clients are required to stay in the office for a minimum of 75 – 90 minutes after ketamine administration and must have a designated driver or other transport arranged to return home.
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
In Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) the temporary psychoactive effects of ketamine are used to enhance psychotherapy by helping the client access internal sources of insight, feel more psychologically open and reduce fear. During the first 3-4 individual sessions with their therapist the client will set intentions for their ketamine treatment and identify psychotherapeutic goals. On the day(s) of treatment the client will arrive to the office 30 – 45 minutes prior to their scheduled psychotherapy visit. They will be medically screened and receive ketamine by oral tablet or intramuscular injection depending on the treatment goals and format. Ketamine doses are in the low to moderate range to enable the client to communicate with their provider throughout their treatment session.
After a ketamine assisted psychotherapy session, the following therapy appointment is devoted to processing the client’s experience during and after ketamine treatment and supporting behavioral, mood, or motivational changes based on the client’s treatment intentions and psychotherapeutic goals. Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy sessions may be repeated at a frequency and dose that is individualized to the client’s goals and treatment response.
Individual Ketamine Treatments
Triangle Wellness & Recovery also offers ketamine administration without simultaneous psychotherapy. This service is available to clients who have previously received ketamine treatments with our practice or on outside practice. The only difference between individual ketamine treatments and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy is that for clients receiving individual ketamine treatments therapy sessions only take place between ketamine treatments rather than both during ketamine administration and between treatments. This treatment format provides the client with a low to moderate dose of ketamine in a safe, relaxing environment with medical supervision but without psychotherapy during the ketamine experience itself. Depending on the treatment goals that the client has set with their provider and the client’s previous treatment experience, ketamine doses administered in this treatment format may be higher than those administered in a Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy visit.
As with the Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy treatment format, clients must first receive a medical and behavioral health assessment and engage in at least three therapy or coaching sessions to prepare for their individual ketamine treatment followed by at least one therapy session after or between treatments to process and integrate the client’s experience.
